The aim of the project will focus on the development of bioactive molecules, synthetic and natural compounds, with multiple properties, anti-neurodegenerative/anti-Alzheimer, anti-tumor, using interdisciplinary perspectives (medicinal chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry).
The project integrates multidisciplinary research, proposing an original protocol to design new pharmacophores that could exhibit better bioactivities and selectivity than the starting compounds for diseases which are among the main causes of death in the world, such as Alzheimer's and cancer.
A diversity of synthetic heterocyclic compounds as well as natural compounds bearing several subunits and different functional groups will be used for the preparation. In order to establish biological structure-activity relationships, the interaction with specific target biomolecules will be studied. Techniques relevant to green chemistry such as ultrasound activation, microwave irradiation, biocatalysis will be used to optimize the extraction of natural compounds and the synthesis of N-heterocyclic compounds.
